Lost Lagoon: Come for the Booty, Stay for
the Adventure

Our team—Triniti, Daniel, and I—collaborated to create a comprehensive multimedia brand kit for Lost Lagoon Fest, an outdoor pirate-themed festival. The project aimed to cover as many aspects of the event as possible, from visual branding to digital assets, ensuring a unified and immersive event. My role focused on designing the festival's website, which served as a central hub to entice potential attendees and provide an overview of the event, including highlights, activities, and what visitors could look forward to. This collaborative effort demonstrated our ability to blend creativity with practicality to bring the festival to life.

Problem

In an era where audiences are increasingly distracted by digital devices, events like the Lost Lagoon festival, at the harbor, struggle to capture attention and encourage participation. Attendees often prioritize online entertainment over in-person experiences, making it challenging for festivals to convey the unique value of real-life engagement.

SOLUTION

As the website designer for the event, it became evident that the festival's online presence needed to be compelling enough to attract visitors, promote activities, and convey the excitement of attending. The festival's website was designed to serve as an engaging hub that showcases the immersive experiences attendees can expect.

Land Ahoy

The landing page is designed to captivate visitors right from the start with a dynamic carousel of images that highlights the excitement of the Lost Lagoon Fest with a prominent "Buy Tickets" button, it encourages potential customers to secure their premium services immediately. The imagery evokes joyful emotions while embracing a cohesive pirate theme, enhanced by a textured background that suggests adventure and ruggedness.

Nautical Buttons

I designed large, image-based buttons with a rising color effect inspired by turquoise water washing over land, which creates a visually engaging experience while reinforcing the pirate theme. After some variations, my team agreed that a golden color blended too closely with the paper-textured background, turquoise was chosen for its stronger contrast to maintain both visibility and immersion.

Anchors Away

The Frequently Asked Questions tab continues the pirate theme by addressing common inquiries from guests in a fun and engaging manner. We thought this added motion not only enhances the thematic experience but also keeps site visitors engaged with the content, helping to maintain their attention throughout their journey on the website.

Wired Frames

Along with input from my team, I was able to create various layouts for each page. I learned more efficient ways to manage my components in Figma and how I could increase the work flow by simplifying certain sections.

The Pages That be

A Pirate’s Logo

I led the logo creation process and, with great team input, I produced varients that were used throughout other collateral. The baseline of the "L" became a focal point during development, as its curve mirrored the flag-inspired logo mark created from the two "L"s, tying the design together cohesively.

Branding Aboard

Triniti led the creation of branding assets and overall print designs for the event. She developed posters, lanyards, wayfinding signage, and other physical collateral, with some assets, such as maps and wanted posters, incorporated into the website. To emphasize the theme of a pirate's map, we agreed she should utilized various paper textures and maintained a cohesive color scheme across all her designs, mirroring the website's aesthetic for a unified festival experience.

Swashbuckle Screens

Daniel spearheaded the creation of motion graphics and video content for the event, ensuring the visuals complemented the pirate theme. Together, we decided that subtle motion effects for the video overlays would effectively capture audience interest without becoming distracting. The celebrity speaker intro videos featured paper textures enhanced with a dynamic bleed effect, simulating ink or water spills to reinforce the rugged, nautical aesthetic.

Takeaway

Collaborating with my teammates was an enjoyable experience that allowed us to design various aspects of the event, and witnessing all our efforts come together was truly amazing. Using Figma to create the festival's website added an extra layer of fun, as I could integrate classic pirate-themed assets like anchors, chains, and textures inspired by pirate maps. This project also provided valuable insights into preparing materials for a niche convention, helping me practice strategies for engaging users effectively with these themed elements to encourage them to attend.
